Letter: Medford mayor explains search for township manager, council appointment

It has certainly been an interesting few months for Medford Township. We have seen some important changes in leadership, including the departures of our township manager and Councilman James “Randy” Pace. A number of residents have expressed concern that these rapid changes could disrupt the progress we have made over the past few years.

While there will be some new faces in our township’s leadership, our vision will not waver. In our search for a new township manager, we will be looking for an individual whose style of leadership emphasizes a highly efficient and accountable organization. We expect Medford Township employees to be inspired to work hard towards accomplishing the very important goal of keeping Medford Township maintained, with a constant eye on delivering value for every tax dollar. With the right organizational plan, we can continue to improve our operations. I’m grateful for the people who are keeping things moving while these changes take place.

As to the governing body, the person who replaces Randy Pace will have big shoes to fill. Randy’s hard work has been evident to all, but he wasn’t working alone. I have heard from many people in the political world that Medford has a unique governing body. There is not a single person on our council who dominates the body, nor is there a member who slacks in contribution. We each work hard to understand the issues we face, we each bring thoughts to the table and we often work through conflicting views to find a solution that works towards the greater good for our town. I’m proud of what our council and our town have established together and I’m quite certain that Randy’s replacement will quickly understand what is expected from all of us. To that end, a new perspective may bring even more positive change to our township.

I ask for your patience and your input, as we rebuild core components of our leadership team. I also ask that you pay very close attention to the new faces, get to know them and hold them accountable to maintain the same standards we have come to expect from our local officials. In the mean time, please know we are dedicated to delivering the very best from ourselves and from each other.

Mayor Chris Buoni
