New recycling carts will be a new sight around Voorhees. At the Voorhees Township meeting on Sept. 22, the board agreed to award IPL, Inc. the bid for new universal recycling containers.
The township of Voorhees advertised for the receipt of bids for recycling containers around Aug. 11 and bids were received and reviewed on Aug. 27. Five companies submitted bids, and ultimately IPL, Inc. was awarded with the bid.
Joe Lovallo, superintendent of Public Works, recommended that the bid be awarded to the lowest bidder. IPL, Inc. came in as the lowest bidder at $446,760.
Voorhees residents might be used to the buckets for their recycling, but with the new containers residents should hopefully find recycling easier. The containers are larger, have easier mobility and can hold all types of recyclables.
“Residents used to have a bucket to carry out. Now we can put the recycling in a large, rolling container,” said Voorhees Administrator Larry Spellman.
Not only will the new containers help the residents, but they will also help the employees of the recycling trucks. Instead of having to pick up the buckets by hand, the recycling trucks can easily pick up the containers mechanically with a side arm.
“All of the recycling, cardboard, aluminum, and glass, can get picked up with an automated vehicle, making it easier for everyone,” Spellman said.
The order for the new containers was put in on Tuesday, Sept. 23, however when the township will be receiving them has not been determined.
