The American dream of homeownership received a boost from Investors Bank with a $5,000 grant to Habitat for Humanity of Burlington County, an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International. As an autonomous not-for-profit corporation, all Habitat for Humanity of Burlington County projects must be supported by local funds.Since its founding in 1987, the organization has built 41 homes throughout the county.
“We rely on the commitment of the community to support our mission to provide decent and affordable housing to people in Burlington County,” said Lori Leonard, Executive Director, Habitat for Humanity of Burlington County. “The generous donation from Investors Bank will go directly towards the completion of the home we are renovating in Riverside.”
Habitat for Humanity of Burlington County applied for the grant from Investors Foundation, which supports non-profit organizations that enrich diverse communities served by Investors Bank.
“Every human being deserves a place to live, and Habitat for Humanity of Burlington County has been providing homes for the last 27 years,” said Carmine Pannullo, a Senior Market Manager for Investors Bank. “We are so proud to support this wonderful organization.”
Habitat for Humanity of Burlington County builds or renovates houses with the help of volunteer labor and donated materials. Houses are sold with a zero-interest, 20- to 30-year affordable mortgage to a family that contributes 250 to 400 hours of “sweat equity” towards the completion of a Habitat home. Mortgage payments are used to build or rehab more homes.
Habitat for Humanity of Burlington County also maintains a ReStore at 530 Route 38 in Maple Shade, which accepts donations of building materials and supplies, appliances, home furnishings, even clothing. The materials often come from local contractors and corporate donors such as Home Depot, Lowes, and Toll Brothers. ReStore resells the donated items at 50 percent to 90 percent of the retail price to support Habitat for Humanity of Burlington County’s Affordable Housing Program. ReStore will pick up donations, as well as deliver items that someone has purchased.
