Last winter, recent Moorestown High School theatre alums and MoorArts scholarship recipients Cole Minnick and Andrew Robinson had an idea — casting, directing, and managing their own theatre production after participating in so many MHS and MoorArts shows. The MoorArts Board of Trustees agreed to support the project, and Minnick’s and Robinson’s concept catapulted into months of hard work and problem solving. The pair enlisted MoorArts performers Olivia Manlove, Zach Taylor, Sarah Zimmer, and Danny McGilloway to fill the cast — and MHS alum Zach Latino joined the team to be the musical director and keyboard player.
On August 15 (7 p.m.) and 16 (2 and 7 p.m.), Minnick’s and Robinson’s dream will become a reality. Presented by MoorArts, [title of show] will be performed as a black box theatre production in the Moorestown High School Auditorium with all audience seating on stage. Tickets are first come, first served — donation at the door.
The one-act musical [title of show] tells the story of Jeff and Hunter, two struggling writers who want to make it big on Broadway who enter a music theatre contest offering a prize for the best show. The catch — they don’t have a show. With three weeks to spare and utilizing the help of their friends Susan, Heidi and Larry, [title of show] is a romp through the throes of creative collaboration on a show that doesn’t even have a name. Originally produced in 2006 by the Vineyard Theatre in New York City, the MoorArts production of [title of show] offers 90 minutes of musical entertainment that showcases the extraordinary talents of its young production team and cast.
MoorArts is a non-profit arts advocacy organization dedicated to promoting the arts in schools and throughout the community. As with all MoorArts events, proceeds from [title of show] fund student scholarships and teacher grants in the fine and performing arts. Learn more at www.MoorArts.org.
