Music on Main Street moves to the Moorestown Community House

The Music on Main Street Concert Series has become a tradition in Moorestown, bringing the community together for nights of summer fun. This year’s series, however, will see a change of location that is expected to enhance the experience even further.

While past Music on Main Street concerts were held at the Perkins Center for the Arts, this year will see four of the five scheduled shows hosted on the front lawn of the Community House.

“We want to try to bring more people into downtown,” Moorestown Business Association President Mark Morgan said. “The Community House is right in the middle of Main Street, so we’re hoping hosting the concerts there will encourage people to walk around and interact with the businesses.”

The Department of Parks and Recreation has hosted the events in the past and will team with the MBA to put on the series this summer, which will begin June 25 at 7 p.m.

“We attempted to host two of the shows at the Community House last year,” Morgan said. “But both were rained out, so this year will be our trial period to see how we will move forward.”

Morgan expects to see even larger crowds as a result of the location change. To do this, the MBA has contacted businesses on Main Street to further promote the series.

“Having the concerts at the Community House is the best thing for everybody,” he said. “The businesses should see more traffic and people will be able to walk to the concert or walk around before and after the shows.”

There will also be a rich variety of music this year that should help to bring in a more diverse crowd.

“This year, we will have different genres of music for each show,” Morgan said. “From acoustic to classic rock to chamber music, we think we covered a wide enough range of music to appeal to the whole community.”

Morgan hopes this year will bring big enough crowds to merit a closure of Main Street for the concerts in the future, much like for Moorestown Day.

“It would really be great if we could get enough people out at the shows to close down the street and allow the people to walk freely about downtown,” he said.

Music on Main Street will run every other Wednesday through August. The concerts begin at 7 p.m. and are free to the public.

“More than the music, Music on Main Street is an opportunity to get everyone together and to further promote what Moorestown is all about,” Morgan said.
