On June 6, the Stockton Vocal Music Department took the ‘Music in the Parks’ competition by storm. The Crescendo Choir is an auditioned choral group created by Laura Harmon, with the continual support from Principal Eloisa DeJesus-Woodruff.
Stockton is the only Cherry Hill Elementary school with this unique musical group. Harmon alongside Woodruff wanted to create a program that would foster students with unique musical talents. This program offers the students opportunities beyond the scope of the regular music program. These students participate in performances throughout the year as well as Broadway Showcase II, All-Cherry Hill, All-South, All-State, and National choirs.
The Crescendo Choir has worked hard all year learning musical techniques and high-level repertoire. Their hard work paid off at Music in the Parks. The students received many awards at the competition. The trophies included:
- First Place, elementary treble choir, superior rating
- Overall vocalist to Chloe Lehrfeld. She won for her solo song “Can You Hear Me?
- Esprit de Corps, an award presented to the school that demonstrates proper social & musical behavior.
- Overall elementary choir award
The competition is based on rubric scoring; Crescendo Choir scored the highest score of the day over all elementary, middle, and high schools with a score of 95.5.
