Senator James Beach (D-Camden, Burlington) issued the following statement today regarding the 70th anniversary of the D-Day invasion, where thousands of Americans were injured or lost their lives in an effort that transformed WWII and history:
“Words cannot adequately express the appreciation and gratitude that we have for the brave men and women who fought in the D-Day invasion in Normandy, France. Without their valor and heroism, we would not enjoy the Democratic freedoms that we have today and we are eternally grateful. People around the globe owe their freedoms to the people who charged that beach and turned the tide of the war in Europe.
“Today should also serve as reminder of the commitment we as a nation must have to support the members of our Armed Forces. Few communities were spared losses of loved ones in the Normandy invasion or the months of fighting that followed and the nation was galvanized in the war effort. We must have the same unified effort when it comes to today’s veterans and their families, ensuring they have proper medical care and access to economic opportunities.”
