Jazz legend Richie Cole’s quintet headlines the Jazz and Blues Showcase series on Saturday, June 7. The show will take place in Memorial Hall at Protestant Community Church, 100 Stokes Road, Medford Lakes from 7:30 to 10 p.m.
Alto saxophonist Cole has been a prominent voice for jazz’s bebop genre during his four-decade plus professional career. His performances continue to please jazz enthusiasts worldwide. Included in a sampling of the many jazz greats he’s performed and recorded with are Buddy Rich, Lionel Hampton, Eddie Jefferson, Freddie Hubbard, Sonny Stitt, Art Pepper and Nancy Wilson.
An accomplished composer and arranger, as well, Cole’s talents have also been featured with the well-known “Manhattan Transfer” and “Five By Design” vocal groups and his own “Alto Madness” orchestra. His distinguished resume contains more than 50 CDs that he’s recorded. It also includes serving on the National Endowment for the Arts among his honors.
