New Jersey Library Association Honors Voorhees Librarian

The New Jersey Library Association (NJLA) will honor two Camden County librarians during their annual conference in June at Revel in Atlantic City.

Emily Moore, head of youth services at the Vogelson Branch of the Camden County Library System in Voorhees will be presented with the NJLA Rising Star Award on June 3. The Rising Star Award is given to librarians with less than five years of experience who demonstrate great promise, potential, innovation and creativity.

“Only the best librarians in the state are recognized, and two are from Camden County,” said Freeholder Ian Leonard, liaison to the Camden County Library System. “Emily has skillfully led the Youth Services staff while developing innovative programming and increasing community outreach.”

“Emily has a great amount of potential for the future. She is bright, talented, and determined. She possesses natural leadership ability and an enthusiasm and passion for librarianship,” said Linda Devlin, director of the Camden County Library System. “She is indeed a “rising star”, not only within the Camden County Library System, but for the profession.”

Candace Worrell, librarian at the South County Branch of the Camden County Library System in Winslow Township, will be presented with the NJLA Best Practices in Early Literacy Award on June 4.

“Candace is being recognized on the state level for excellence in literacy,” Leonard said. “She responded to a need in the community and developed the Sensory Story Time program to promote early literacy in Camden County. The children in her program look forward to their visits to the library.”

Candace’s Sensory Story Time is one of four programs statewide selected to receive a $500 grant to be used for literacy programming.

“We congratulate both of these outstanding librarians,” Leonard said. “We are glad that others recognize their commitment and the exceptional service they provide to the community.”
