Adath Emanu-El to re-dedicate Torah on June 3

TorahScroll

At the June 3 Erev Shavout Service, Adath Emanu-El is rededicating their recently restored, 300-year old Torah.

Shavuot is the Hebrew word for “weeks” and refers to the Jewish festival marking the giving of the Torah at Mount Sinai, which occurs seven weeks after Passover. In modern times, it is a celebration of Torah, education and actively choosing to participate in Jewish life. This is an appropriate holiday to rededicate the 300-year old repaired Torah scroll.

This scroll survived the Holocaust by being hidden in a Czechoslovakian basement. Recently, Rabbi Moshe Druin, a Torah sofer or scribe, painstakingly restored this Torah. This is an evening to celebrate Torah and also to celebrate the return of this historical scroll.
