Burlington County College’s clinical education seminar continues on May 10

In an effort to help health care professionals better understand and prepare for, changes and improvements in clinical documentation, Burlington County College’s Health information Technology Department will host the continuing education seminar, “An Educational Symposium on Clinical Documentation Improvement– A Physician Educator’s Perspective” on Saturday, May 10 at the college’s Briggs Road Center, on the Mt. Laurel campus.

The seminar taps into the increasing need in the healthcare industry to provide greater specificity when recording a patient’s diagnosis and exactness when classifying procedures.

“Burlington County College is a major player in preparing the region’s health care professionals for advancements in clinical documentation,” said BCC Interim President Dr. David Spang. “This particular continuing education seminar will benefit clinicians in all disciplines and enhance patient care.”

During this three-hour seminar, CDI physician champion and educator, Alan E. Matook, will discuss the general principals and precepts of the “International Classification of Diseases,” their differences, transition, as well as the nomenclature of clinical documentation and documentation issues.

“Participants will learn the aspects of a successful Clinical Documentation Improvement program, gain a better understating of documentation issues from a physician’s perspective, and become more familiar with the new coding system,” said BCC Director of Health Information Technology Susan Scully.

The seminar has been approved by the American Academy of Professional Coders and the American Health Information Management Association for three Continuing Education Units. Participants must attend the entire event to receive credit.

To register, visit bcc.edu/ceu. The cost is $50 per person. The seminar will be held from 9 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. in room 115 at the BCC’s Briggs Road Center. For more information, call (609) 894–9311, ext. 1711.
