Evesham Police attempting to identify suspect who installed surveillance equipment on ATM

The following information comes from Lt. Joseph Friel of the Evesham Township Police Department:

ETPD is attempting to identify a suspect who installed surreptitious surveillance equipment on an ATM located inside the Bank of America, 351 West Route 70.

Pictures of the suspect were captured by a security camera inside the ATM when the skimming device was installed. The suspect first attached a small electronic device over the card slot, to record customers’ account information. He then attached a small pin-hole camera to the ATM to record the users entering their PIN number.

In most skimming cases the stolen information is later encoded onto blank cards and can be used at ATMs to withdraw funds using the customer’s PIN.

The Bank of America was able to contact all the victims and close their accounts before any money was stolen. The skimming device was only on the ATM for less than 3hours on Saturday April 26, 2014.

If anyone knows the identity of this suspect you are asked to contact the Evesham Police Department at (856) 983–1116, the Confidential Tip Line at (856) 983–4699 or email at [email protected]. Anonymous tips text ETPDTIP to 847411

How to Avoid being Skimmed

– Inspect the ATM, gas pump, or credit card reader before using it…be suspicious if you see anything loose, crooked, or damaged, or if you notice scratches or adhesive/tape residue.

– When entering your PIN, block the keypad with your other hand to prevent possible hidden cameras from recording your number.

– If possible, use an ATM at an inside location (less access for criminals to install skimmers).

– If your card isn’t returned after the transaction or after hitting “cancel,” immediately contact the financial institution that issued the card.
