Evesham Police Identify Suspects in ShopRite Purse Theft

On March 10 the Evesham Township Police Department posted surveillance photographs of two suspects wanted in connection to the theft of an elderly women’s purse from the ShopRite Store on its Facebook and Twitter pages.

Within an hour, the ETPD received several tips identifying the suspects. Within four hours, the suspect responsible for physically stealing the women’s purse turned himself in to ETPD after seeing his picture on their Facebook page. During that time, more than 23,000 people saw the Facebook post and over 200 Facebook users shared the surveillance photos on their personal Facebook pages. ETPD thanks all its social media followers for their assistance in helping solve this case.

ETPD social media pages continue to prove to be useful tools for the department in communicating with the public and identifying suspects.

Arrested:

A male, age 20, of Chesilhurst, was charged with fourth degree theft and 2 counts of fourth degree theft of a credit card. He was lodged in the Burlington County Jail in default of $30,000 cash bail.

Criminal charges against the second suspect are pending the outcome of the investigation.
