Evesham Police plan DWI checkpoints in Evesham in late winter and through spring

From Lieutenant Joseph Friel of the Evesham Police Deparment:

Evesham Police Chief Christopher Chew and the Evesham Police Department announce their intention to use the full effects of roadside checkpoints in these winter and spring seasons in the enforcement of intoxicated or impaired drivers. Driving While Intoxicated is a very serious violation of state law and is taken seriously by the entire Evesham Police Department.

Police officers will utilize appropriate traffic control devices to facilitate roadside checks in accordance with departmental policy and law. Motorists traveling on the selected roadway(s) will be asked to slow down and even stop during the course of a checkpoint. Police will make every effort to limit traffic delays. Motorists are asked to be patient and cooperate with such proactive measures in a “police-public partnership” on making Evesham roadways safer for everyone. The department’s goal is to prevent motorists from driving while intoxicated.

Drunk Driving Enforcement Funds collected by the court system will be used to fund these DWI enforcement efforts.

The aforementioned checkpoints will possibly be operational during the period of Feb. 26 through April 1. The exact locations, dates, and times will not be revealed at this time. However, potential areas of operation will possibly be major roadways and state, county or municipal thoroughfares that pass through the City.

More specifically, roadways such as State Highway 73, State Highway 70, Maple Avenue, Greentree Road, Evesboro-Medford Road, and Marlton Parkway will possibly be utilized. All checkpoints will be highly visible at the time of execution. A letter of request and justification specifically indicating the exact location(s), date(s), and time(s) will be on file with the Chief of Police.

Concerned citizens are always encouraged to report erratic and/or DWI driving to local authorities.
