Join The Marlton Woman’s Club

The Marlton Woman’s Club is a welcoming organization where local women can come together and develop their community, their relationships with others and themselves.

Asked to describe the club, Mindi Carleton, vice president and communications chairman, referenced an anonymous quote on the club’s website and brochure:

“You can’t do all the good the world needs, but the world needs all the good you can do.”

The club was first established in 1963, soon joining the New Jersey State Federation of Women’s Clubs and the General Federation of Women’s Clubs in 1964.

With some members now over 70 and 80 years old, the club’s longevity means it has had a lasting impact on the shape of the surrounding area.

“I believe the Marlton Women’s Club was instrumental in starting Evesham library,” Carleton said.

The club is non-political and non-sectarian, and any woman can join regardless of where they live.

“We have members from communities all through Burlington County,” Carleton said.

Under president June Adair, the club continues to enrich the surrounding communities.

“Last year in 2013 we gave away more than $10,000 to more than 25 different charities,” Carleton said.

The service projects undertaken by the club focus on many different sections of communities.

The club supports Cherokee High School scholarships, recognizing Marlton Middle School students for achievements in math, planting tree saplings for Earth Day, women in the military, providing assistance to displaced or out of work families, sending stockings at Christmas to troops overseas, supporting the wounded warrior project, donating money to Operation Smile, bringing candy and cookies to the retirement homes for Valentine’s Day and much more.

The club holds bingo events in the fall and spring that attract more than 100 people, and this year, the club even raised more than $3,000 with their own Relay for Life team.

“We’re a fun group of women that raise money for charitable organizations,” Carleton said.

Most recently, the club’s public issues committee led a project where the club presented Evesham Fire-Rescue with a donation to be used for its Hug-A-Bear program.

The program ensures rescue workers can give small plush animals to children in emergencies or times of stress.

“Women working in the community doing service projects both in the community and internationally,“ Carleton said. “It’s a great group of women. These are great friendships here.”

The club meets on the fourth Monday of every month from September-May at the Gibson House Community Center, 535 E. Main St., Recreation Drive in Marlton.

Refreshments are served at 6:30 p.m. during a socialization period for the club’s 25–30 members, with general meetings starting at 7 p.m. unless otherwise announced in advance.

Annual dues are $35.
