The Alice Paul Institute’s 29th annual meeting, “Celebrating 350 Years of New Jersey Women”, takes place Sunday, Jan. 12. at the Doane Academy, 350 Riverbank, Burlington. The business meeting, followed by refreshments that include a birthday cake to celebrate Alice Paul’s 129th birthday on Jan. 11, begins at 1 p.m. The program begins at 2 p.m.
The program includes presentations about Burlington County women like Alice Paul, Emily Roebling, Clara Barton, Elizabeth Doane, Agnes Gilkerson Smith, Elizabeth Coleman White and Eliza Gurney; a virtual tour of the New Jersey Women’s Heritage Trail on the redesigned New Jersey Women’s History website; representatives from Burlington County history sites at information tables; remarks by New Jersey State Senator Diane Allen, sponsor of the legislation funding the New Jersey Women’s Heritage Trail, and by the Doane Academy headmaster and staff; and musical entertainment by Doane Academy students.
The event is sponsored by the New Jersey Historical Commission, NJ350 and the New Jersey Historic Trust through the Discover NJ History License Plate Heritage Tourism Grant Program.
