The South Jersey Pops Holiday Concert, to be performed at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 15, at Lenape High School, will be a musical Christmas stocking stuffed with the rich array of music inspired by the season.
Traditional carols and melodies that have become the season’s standards will be interwoven with the equally beautiful melodies enjoyed by peoples around the world. Doors will open at 2:30 p.m. Tickets, available at the door or on line at www.southjerseypops.org, are $7 for adults. Children are admitted free.
Last year when the Pops renewed its holiday season performance, a share of the concert proceeds was donated to the Point Pleasant Beach School District to replace instruments and music lost to Superstorm Sandy. This year, the Evesham School District music program has been selected to share in the concert proceeds.
“Evesham is the Pops’ home base. The orchestra has rehearsed for several years in the band room at the Marlton Middle School and the staff and administration there have been welcoming, helpful and accommodating in every way. We appreciate all that the school district has done for us,” Christian Stebbins, president of the orchestra’s Board of Trustees said.
For this year’s Holiday Concert, Pops Music Director Robert Schiavinato and Associate Conductor Cheryl Reifsteck have been preparing not only the full orchestra but also smaller ensembles within the Pops. The concert will include the Pops Strings and the Pops Brass Quintet. The Pops Brass Choir will greet concertgoers with traditional carols in the lobby at Lenape before the start of the concert. Both Pops brass ensembles will be under the direction of Mark Inchoco, a member of the Pops trumpet section.
