Todd Azar, Ralph Ipri inducted into Camden County Sports Hall of Fame

A former player and coach at Cherry Hill East were two of the 13 sports legends honored at the Camden County Sports Hall of Fame Dinner and induction ceremony last week.

Todd Azar, a 1983 graduate of Cherry Hill East, was an outstanding baseball player for the Cougars. He then enjoyed a record-setting career at Old Dominion University.

Ralph Ipri retired from Cherry Hill East High School in 2011 with 956 victories in boys’ tennis, more than any coach in the United States. A Bishop Eustace graduate, Ipri was South Jersey coach-of-the-year six times and in 2004 was named National Coach of the Year.

“Their focus on teamwork and leadership qualifies these latest inductees as permanent fixtures in the history of Camden County,” said Freeholder Director Louis Cappelli Jr. “These athletes are legendary in their accomplishments and some have gone on to play their respective games at the highest level of competition.”

Cappelli continued to talk about the reason the Freeholder Board honors these exceptional athletes.

“This event is a celebration of competition, endurance and sportsmanship, and the men and women, who led their teams to the pinnacle of success,” Cappelli said. “Every year it is an honor for the Freeholder Board to shine the spotlight on some of the best athletes our county has to offer.”
