Letter: Vicki Shoemaker for Tabernacle BOE

My name is Victoria (Vicki) Shoemaker and I am running for a position on the Tabernacle Board of Education.

My husband and I have been residents of Tabernacle for over 37 years. Besides being a long-time resident, I am a retired teacher who spent 30 of my 37 years in education teaching the children of Tabernacle. In addition, our two daughters attended school in the district as well.

My reasons for seeking a position on the Tabernacle BOE are twofold. First, I want to see that the education of the children of Tabernacle continue at the highest level. Tabernacle had always been a district where parents wanted their children educated and where teachers wanted to teach. In recent years, I have witnessed, both first hand and through attending BOE meetings, that some of what had made Tabernacle such a desirable district — compassion, willingness to listen, and valuing and supporting staff — has been lost. If elected, I will work to insure that these will once again become important to both the BOE and the administration.

The second reason is to maintain the value of my house/property. It is imperative that we maintain a school district that attracts families with young children. If real estate agents and current homeowners are unable to ensure those seeking to purchase homes in Tabernacle that the school district is top-notch our property values will certainly decrease.

Having the advantage of being a 37 year resident of Tabernacle and my years of experience in education are what make me a viable choice. Please vote for me on November 5. Thank you!
