Electronic recycling day on Nov. 16

Residents with televisions, computers and other electronic devices in need of disposal are invited to AAA South Jersey for a free Electronics Recycling Day on Saturday, Nov. 16. The event will take place at AAA’s South Jersey headquarters, located at 700 Laurel Oak Road, directly across from the Flyers Skate Zone, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

In conjunction with 1–800-GOT JUNK, area residents can bring the following items for recycling: computer monitors, keyboards, mice, hard drives, calculators, printers, copiers, fax machines, cell phones or plug in phones, small televisions (no projection or console models), radios, fans, wires, extension cords or power supply cords, laptops, modems, mother boards, docking stations, cable boxes, air conditioning units, small motors or pumps, and lamps.

Each person who brings an item to be recycled will receive money-saving coupons from AAA, and will be entered in a drawing to win a new computer from Dell.

This event is available to AAA members as well as non-members.

As per the 2009 State Electronic Waste Management Act, which went into effect on Jan. 1, 2011, televisions and computers were banned from landfills and incinerators in New Jersey, and residents cannot place these items in their trash for regular curbside collection. This has forced people to locate drop-off sites, pay to have the items removed, or possibly illegally dump the items.

“Through AAA’s partnerships with companies like 1–800-GOT JUNK and Dell, we are able to offer area residents this unique opportunity to dispose of unwanted electronics for free, while also reducing clutter in their home,” said Carol Scott, president and CEO of AAA South Jersey. “We hope the community will take advantage of this unique opportunity, and also use this occasion to come into our offices and see all the services and benefits available from AAA.”
