The approach of fall means multiple events will be happening in Medford. From fall festivals to Halloween, there will be plenty of activities for you and your family.
Medford Historical Society Center for Education
The Medford Historical Society will be hosting an open house at the new Center for Education at Bunning Farm, 211 Church Road, on Sunday, Sept. 22.
The center is part of the Dr. James Still Preservation Project.
According to a historical society press release, demonstrations and displays will be set up in the new instructional kitchen.
The society suggests pausing for a moment in the reading room with its original handcrafted bannister, oak floors, woodwork, wallpaper and 1920–1930 period furnishings.
Additionally, there will be guest speakers giving presentations on Medford and Still throughout the day.
According to the release, at 2 p.m. guests can listen to Still’s story firsthand as he makes an “appearance” at the Tree Stump Amphitheatre; check out all the gardens and identify the native plants and herbs; say “hello” to the special friends visiting from Cedar Run Wild Life Refuge; visit the new Children’s Garden created by Lowe’s volunteers in recognition of the Center as this year’s Lowe’s Hero; build a scarecrow to take home; join in games and special activities while following the MHS Passport as a guide; and experience “old time” and Irish fiddler music with Nancy Longenecker and friends.

A Taste of Medford
The Medford Business Association will be holding its ninth Annual A Taste of Medford and business expo at Kirby’s Mill on Sept. 28, the second year it’s been at this location.
According to Dave Vaughn, the event was moved to later in the month due to the fire damage at Ironstone Village, cancelling the annual Oktoberfest.
“It’s an opportunity for the restaurants in the Medford area to showcase their foods and offerings and also present an opportunity for local businesses to provide information and products they have available,” said Theresa Freedman, president of the Medford Business Association.
Food variety ranges from sushi to pizza, wings and vegan crab cakes. Femmina Italian Grill, Reily’s Candy, Makiman Sushi, Zinc Café, PJ Whelihan’s, Toto Fresco Italiano and Buffalo King were in attendance last year, and the major sponsor of the event was Zallie’s ShopRite.
The event runs from noon to 3 p.m. Free parking is available for guests.

Apple Festival
Pies, cider and doughnuts, oh my!
The 35th annual Apple Festival returns to Kirby’s Mill on Oct. 12 with food, treats, live music and a plethora of apple cider doughnuts.
The rain or shine event will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Parking is free.
The historical society opens its doors to guests to explore the grounds and get a tour of the mill, with live demonstrations.
According to Bill Stauts, president of the Medford Historical Society and chair of the Apple Festival, approximately 10,000 Medford and area residents attended the event last fall.
Proceeds from the event benefit the historical society and its ongoing restoration of the mill.
