POLICE: be wary of phone scam
The Evesham Police Department is warning residents about a scam targeting seniors, where callers claim a family member has been arrested and asks victims to wire bail money for their release.
During one of the scam attempts, the caller advised an elderly female that her grandson was arrested in Georgia for causing injury to another person while driving while intoxicated.
The caller advised the elderly female that she needed to post $150,000 bail for her grandson to be released.
When the female stated that she didn’t have that amount of money, the suspect lowered the amount to $35,000.
The phone call was terminated when the female stated she didn’t have $35,000.
Residents should be reminded that police departments do not solicit funds to be distributed by wired fund services.
Evesham Police encourage residents to be extra cautious about releasing any personal information over the phone.
Residents in doubt of a solicitation should contact their local law enforcement agency.
