Summer fun and local happenings

The summer months bring warm weather, vacations, beach days and more. But for those who are looking to find more to do during the summer besides lounging around at the poolside or beach, here is a list of local happenings.

Outdoor festivities

The Haddonfield Crafts and Fine Arts festival is coming to town on Saturday, July 13, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday, July 14, from noon to 5 p.m. Kings Highway, between Washington and Haddon avenues, and along Tanner Street to Euclid Avenue, will be closed for vendors and viewers.

The festival, in its 21st year, is one of the largest art festivals in the area. Artisans will be at the event displaying various types of arts and crafts

Haddonfield’s Farmers Market will be out on Kings Court every Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The last day of the market is Oct. 26.

On the schedule of events for the farmers market festivities, the Peach Festival is on July 27; Farmers Market Week is on Aug. 10; the Corn Festival is on Aug. 17; the market is celebrating Jersey tomatoes on Aug. 31; and at the last of the summer’s farmers markets the Rotary Club of Haddonfield is selling bird seed on Sept. 14.

Friday night concerts

The Rotary Club of Haddonfield is hosting its summer concert series.

The Vintage Country Duet will perform on July 5. On Friday, July 12, The Mango Men, a rock/country/pop band, will perform. The Dixie Stompers will perform on July 19, and The All Souled Out Band will perform on July 2.

All performances will begin at 7 p.m. and will be held at Kings Court.

Independence Day

There are a few events to help celebrate the Fourth of July.

On Wednesday, July 3, the Haddonfield Celebrations Association is hosting a fireworks display at 7 p.m. Participants will be able to see the fireworks from Haddonfield Memorial High School’s stadium field.

On July 4, there will be a reading of the Declaration of Independence at the Indian King Tavern at 9:30 a.m. The Celebration Association’s annual Fourth of July parade begins at 10 a.m. along Kings Highway.

Indoor entertainment

The Haddonfield Plays and Players are stepping out on stage for a performance this summer — “The Producers,” written by Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan with music and lyrics by Brooks.

The production, Brooks’ 12th Tony Award-winning performance, follows Max Bialystock, a former Broadway producer, as he and his accountant take on a task to produce a washout Broadway show.

The show dates for “The Producers” are July 18, at 7:30 p.m.; July 19, 20, 26, 27, Aug. 2, 3, 9 and 10 at 8 p.m.; and July 21, 28 and Aug. 4 at 2 p.m.

Ticket prices for Thursday, July 18, are $12 per person; for Friday, July 19, tickets are buy one for $20 and get the second for free; and for the remainder of the performances ticket prices are $20 per person. Library events

The library has a few summer activities for children.

Sleepy Story Time for ages 3 to 6 is on Mondays at 7 p.m. starting July 1. Preschool Story Time for ages 3 to 5 is on Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m.

The Book Burrow program allows students from ages 7 to 10 to read a story together on Wednesdays at 1 p.m. starting July 10. The book of choice is “Take the Mummy and Run,” by Mary Amato.

The StorySearch book group will be held on Wednesdays at 3 p.m. starting July 10. Students ages 9 to 12 will get a chance to read, discuss and participate in activities based on the book “Holes” by Louis Sachar.

Toddler Time for children ages 2 to 3 is on Thursdays at 10:30 a.m.

Makin’ Music for children 6 and under is on Fridays July 12 and Aug. 9 at 10:30 a.m.

A summer reading program party with the Dino Dig Show is on Thursday, Aug. 29 at 7 p.m. at Borough Hall.

Luloo at the Library with Sara O’Brien will end the summer with a Community Rocks outdoor family concert on the lawn at the library on Friday, Sept. 6 from 3:30 to 5 p.m. The rain date for the concert is on Saturday, Sept. 7, at 1 p.m. The concert is for all ages.
