Summer fun and local happenings
The summer months bring warm weather, vacations, beach days and more. But for those who are looking to find more to do during the summer besides lounging around at the poolside or beach, here is a list of local happenings.
Summer concert series
The free summer concert series hosted by the Department of Parks and Recreation is back and ready to rock.
The Jersey Boomers will perform on Wednesday, July 10, at the Moorestown Community House. The group performs music ranging from the Kingston Trio and Johnny Cash to Bob Dylan and The Beatles.
On Wednesday, July 24, The Wind Symphony of Southern New Jersey will perform classics, pop music and show tunes at the Perkins Center for the Arts.
On Wednesday, July 31, Tri-County Symphonic Band will march and perform big band, light classics at the Perkins Center for the Arts.
On Wednesday, Aug. 7, The Barbone Street Jazz Band, a New Orleans style Dixieland Jazz band, will perform at Perkins Center for the Arts.
Make sure you bring chairs or blankets and snacks.
All performances begin at 7:30 p.m. The rain dates for the performances are the Thursday following the concert.

Moorestown rec events
The Moorestown Parks and Recreation Department sponsors a summer trip series for all children registered for the summer parks program.
The scheduled trips are as follows: Bowling for ages 5 to 12 on Tuesday, July 9; Thursday, July 18; and Tuesday, July 23, from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Track Clinics for ages 5 to 12 on Wednesday, July 10; Wednesday, July 17; and Monday, July 22, from 10 a.m. to noon. Roller-skating for children ages 5 to 12 will be held on Thursday, July 11, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and a trip to the Riversharks game for children ages 8 to 12 will be on Tuesday, July 16, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
All activities are $15 per child. Registration for the program is based on a first-come, first-served basis.
Pick-up for bowling, roller skating and Riversharks trips will be at George C. Baker Elementary School on Maple Avenue (across from the Maple-Dawson tennis courts).
Transportation is provided for the track clinics.
Track clinics will be conducted by World Athlete Track Academy, 4 Marcy Court, Mt. Laurel, and will require a World Athlete Track Academy waiver. The waiver can be filled out the day of the trip, or at www.moorestown.nj.us.

A summer swim clinic is also available for children ages 6 and older.
The first session is on Saturday’s through July 13, with no session on July 7.
The second session is on Saturdays from July 20 to Aug. 17.
Designed to teach children the basics of swimming and familiarize them with the water, sessions are offered to non-swimmers or beginners from 9 to 9:45 a.m.; novice swimmers from 10 to 10:45 a.m.; and to intermediate swimmers from 11 to 11:45 a.m.
The five-week program is $40 for residents and $60 for nonresidents. All sessions are held at the community house, 16 E. Main St.

Independence Day celebration
The “Made in America” themed Fourth of July Parade, hosted by the Moorestown Fourth of July parade Committee, will close Main Street, on July 4 at noon. Floats, bands, flags, decorated bikes and more can be spotted on the curbside of Main Street.

Indoor entertainment
MoorArts is performing “Evita” from Friday, July 12, to Sunday, July 14 and July 17, 19 and 20, in Moorestown High School’s auditorium.
Performances on July 12, 13, 17, 19 and 20 will begin at 8 p.m. On Sunday, July 14, the performance will begin at 7 p.m.

The Moorestown Theater Company will perform “Bye Bye Birdie” from July 18 to 20 at 7 p.m.; July 21 at 2 p.m.; July 25 and 26 at 7 p.m.; and on July 27 at 2 and 7 p.m. All performances will be held at William Allen Middle School, 801 N. Stanwick Road.

The Moorestown Community House is hosting its annual free family summer movie series on Tuesdays July 9, 16, 23, 30, Aug. 6, 13, 20 and 27, at 6:30 p.m. in the community house ballroom.
Participants can pack snacks, brings chairs, pillows and blankets.
