Freeholder board to present final draft of bicycle multi-use plan

The Freeholder Board will present the final draft of the Camden County Bicycle and Multi-Use Trail Master Plan.

“The trail network will provide County residents with new recreational opportunities, while creating an alternative means of transportation between destinations such as schools, shopping centers, parks and recreation facilities, and historic sites, both within each municipality and throughout the county,” said Freeholder Jeffrey L. Nash, liaison to the Department of Parks.

The plan identifies both on-road bike routes and off-road trail locations that together create an interconnected network from Winslow and Waterford to Camden and Pennsauken and all municipalities in between.

“Based on recommendations initially made in the 2004 Camden County Open Space and Farmland Preservation Plan, the plan was developed with the assistance of local officials and input from the public,” Nash said. “We took that public input and put it to work for the benefits of our residents to create new assets for the County Park System and our greenways.”

The plan aims to connect county residents to trails, as well as enhance opportunities to walk or bike to schools, parks, shops, and employment centers. The Trail Plan is considered a companion to the Camden County Open Space and Farmland Preservation Plan in that it makes maximum use of the greenways identified in that plan for future off-road trails thereby providing residents with access to publicly owned green space.
