BCC announces Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program

Burlington County College is pleased to announce that its Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program was recently accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs in collaboration with the Joint Review Committee–Diagnostic Medical Sonography.

After participating in a voluntary self-study and a comprehensive on-site review with one of the CAAHEP’s Committees on Accreditation, it was determined that BCC was in compliance with the nationally recognized standards for the profession.

CAAHEP is the largest programmatic accreditor in the health sciences field.

The DMS program at BCC prepares students for a career as a diagnostic medical sonography technologist, also known as an ultrasound technologist. Working under the guidance of a radiologist, an ultrasound technologist uses state-of-the-art ultrasound equipment to diagnose a variety of diseases.

Graduates of the program are able to perform ultrasound examinations in a number of outpatient and hospital settings.
BCC’s DMS program began in 2007 and in May 2009, the first BCC DMS program majors graduated with their Associate of Applied Science degree.

The program consists of academic, laboratory, and clinical components. The number of available clinical sites limits enrollment for each class to 14 students. For admission into the program students must submit a DMS program application and meet specific criteria.
