Camden County Office of Veteran Affairs to host Hiring Our Heroes event

The Camden County Freeholder Board’s Office of Veteran Affairs, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, ESGR and The American Legion’s Camden County Executive Committee will hold a Hiring Our Heroes job and coaching fair on April 25, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“The Board of Freeholders is very happy to be co-sponsoring the Hiring Our Heroes Job Fair,” said Camden County Freeholder Board Deputy Director, Edward T. McDonnell, who is liaison to the county’s Office of Veteran Affairs. “We are committed to our veterans and want to help them in every way possible as they pursue a new career after serving our country.”

The hiring event hosted by the Susquehanna Bank Center 1, Harbor Blvd. in Camden and sponsored by those listed above is part of a nationwide effort to help veterans and military spouses find meaningful employment.

It will be supported by the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, the Department of Labor’s Veterans’ Employment and Training Service, the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development, the State Parole Board, NJ State Libraries, and other local partners.

Veterans and their spouses are encouraged to take advantage of this event. Resume writing and interview coaching/training will take place prior to the event beginning at 8:30 am.

The above listed supporting organizations and other veteran related agencies will be available to provide attendees with additional information regarding their state and federal benefits.

In March of 2011, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s National Chamber Foundation launched Hiring Our Heroes, a nationwide initiative to help veterans and military spouses find meaningful employment. Working with our network of 1,600 state and local chambers and other strategic partners from the public, private, and non-profit sectors, our goal is to create a movement across America in hundreds of local communities where veterans and military families return every day.

Hiring Our Heroes has hosted more than 355 hiring fairs in all 50 states, Puerto Rico, and the District of Columbia; more than 14,100 have gotten jobs (through September 30, 2012).

They have significantly expanded efforts in 2012 with a goal of hosting hiring fairs in 400 communities, the establishment of a stand-alone program for military spouses, and a sustained campaign to enlist the commitments from the small business community to hire veterans and military spouses by the end of 2014.

Veteran job seekers and employers should go to HoH.GreatJob.net to register. Employers must have current job openings, and must register.
