The weather is warming and spring events are beginning to appear around the town. If you are looking for something this spring, there are plenty of events and activities in Voorhees from which to choose.
Pick a park
On a sunny day, enjoying outdoor activities is a must. Voorhees has plenty of outdoor recreational facilities to visit.
John Connolly Memorial Park, located on Centennial Boulevard, has a playground, walking track, cricket pitch and a dog park; Elliot Drive Playground, located on Elliot Drive, is a playground meant for children ages 2 to 5 and has a picnic table for a quick snack; Giangiulio Sports Complex, located on Victor Boulevard, has a baseball field, a turf football field and a playground; John Hale Memorial Park, located on West End Avenue, has a swing set, picnic tables, grills and pavilions; Kirkwood Sports Complex located on Laurel Oak Road, has a playground for children ages 2 to 10, picnic tables, a walking path, a bocce ball court and basketball and tennis courts; Lake Villa Playground, located on Cornell Drive, has a playground for children ages 2 to 5, a swing set and tennis and basketball courts; Lions Lake Complex, located at 101 Dutchtown Road, has a playground for children ages 2 to 10, batting cages, a lake, softball fields and picnic tables; Maiaroto Sports Complex, located on Echelon Road, has soccer fields, basketball and tennis courts; Rabinowitz Sports Complex, located on Kresson Road, has baseball fields, a swing set, batting cages and picnic tables; Round Hill Road Playground, located on Round Hill Road, has a playground for children ages 2 to 10, a baseball field and tennis courts; Sandpiper Drive Playground, located at Sandpiper Drive and Willowbrook Way, has a playground for children ages 2 to 12, swings and picnic tables; and Sheppard Road Basketball Courts, located on Sheppard Road off of Centennial Boulevard, has one full court and two half courts.
Walk or run for a cause
The fifth annual Walk 4 Family & Friends with Cancer will be held on Saturday, April 20, at 8 a.m. at John Connolly Park. Proceeds will benefit the Financial Assistance for Cancer Patients program and Abramson Cancer Center of the University of Pennsylvania. To participate in the walk there is a $30 fee for adults and $15 for children ages 6 to 18 if paid by April 18. Entry fees for both adults and children are $30 on the day of the event.

The Alicia Rose Victorious Foundation is hosting the fifth annual Victorious Walk/Run with guest host Ali Gorman from 6ABC Health Watch, on Sunday, May 19, at Lakeside Manor, 10 Foster Ave., Gibbsboro. The Philadelphia “Soulmates,” the Philadelphia Soul football team’s dance squad, will also make an appearance at the event.
Registration will begin at 7:30 and the race will begin at 9 a.m. Fees for runners/walkers is $20 for adults and $10 for children ages 5 to 18. Children under 5 are free.

Coffee house setting entertainment
If you are trying to find something to do at night, Coffee Works at The Ritz, on Route 561, offers free entertainment as well as ticketed events Thursday to Sunday. The following performances are free.
Cherry Hill native singer and songwriter Amy Wooden will perform at Coffee Works on Friday, April 12, from 8 to 11 p.m.

Chris Nuhfer will perform acoustic rock music on Saturday, April 27, from 8 to 11 p.m.
Do you want to hear some classics from the 60s? Marc Sengin will perform classics from the 60s and 70s on Saturday, May 4, while Bob Anderson will play classics from the 60s to the present on Sunday, May 10. Both performances are from 8 to 11 p.m.

“The Sleeping Beauty” at Voorhees Middle School Theater
Ballet NJ will host a performance of “The Sleeping Beauty” on April 27 and 28, and May 4 and 5, at the Voorhees Middle School Theater. All shows will begin at 2:30 p.m. Ticket prices range from $13 to $22. There is a $4.50 handling fee for tickets that are purchased with a credit card. ARVF wine tasting
The Alicia Rose Victorious Foundation is hosting its 9th annual Wine Tasting event to benefit the ARVF, on Thursday, April 25, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Virtua Barry Brown Education Building, 106 Carnie Blvd. The event will have more than 250 fine wines and craft beers from around the world as well as gourmet food. Wine experts and winemakers will also be at the event to answer any questions.

Farmers market and a community flea market
The Voorhees Towns Center Farmers Market will have its grand opening on Saturday, May 11. The market will operate every Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon until Oct. 5.
Enjoy live music, a petting zoo, pony rides, a balloon artist and more as you shop for locally grown produce.

Springtime at the library
M. Allan Vogelson is hosting spring events before the summer rolls around.
On Sunday, April 21, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. children ages 8 to 12 can join in on an Earth Day craft, making belts out of recycled materials. Supplies will be provided, but participants can bring three, 2-inch-by-1.5-yard fabric strips and colorful plastic bags.

A Science Fair will be held at the library on Saturday, May 25, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Children’s Story Room. Children in grades kindergarten to eighth can show off their favorite science experiment. Entry forms and instructions are at the Youth Services Desk.

The library will also host a “last day of spring” event, Twas the Night Before Summer, on Thursday, June 20, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in meeting room “A” at the library. Children will make insect wings, read summer stories and enjoy snacks.
Children can also sign up for the summer reading program at the event. The age requirement for this event will be announced at a later date.
