On Thursday, April 4 local author and journalist Carol Suplee will present Stories of Willingboro Township and the Settlement of West Jersey at the Medford Historical Society meeting, starting at 7:30 p.m.
Suplee will give a fascinating overview of the settlement of Willingboro Township by Quakers in the 17th Century, on through key milestones in the broader settlement of West New Jersey.
The narrative continues through the development of a New Jersey’s Levittown by the legendary builder, William J. Levitt and key figures who played important roles in the townships development and maturation. All are welcome to attend at no charge. The society meets at the Medford Friends Meetinghouse, 14 Union Street, Medford.
Suplee, an award-winning journalist and author, now resides in Lumberton, but lived almost 29 years in Willingboro.
She has written two books, edited another and has also contributed to the New Jersey State Encyclopedia. As a journalist, Suplee began as a newspaper reporter in 1968 and thereafter wrote prize-winning copy as a columnist, feature writer, investigative reporter and editorial page editor.
She has won numerous awards over almost three decades. Upon her retirement from the newspaper, she received a special commendation from the New Jersey State Legislature.
