Movies, music, teenagers and audiences of all ages will join forces this spring to provide comfort to hospitalized teens. Students involved in Eastern High School’s spring musical production, “City of Angels” — a musical homage to Hollywood’s golden age of film noir — are collecting DVDs for donation to the Alicia Rose Victorious Foundation, which helps teenagers hospitalized with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses. The Philharmonic of Southern New Jersey will collect DVD donations for ARVF at its May 5 concert featuring the music of renowned movie score composer, John Williams.
Dedicated to making the time teens spend in hospitals as entertaining as possible by providing games, movies, music and a place to “hang out” with other teens, the non-profit ARVF will use the donated DVDs to stock in-hospital teen lounges and individually distributed teen kits. ARVF was founded in memory of Alicia DiNatale, a Voorhees resident who participated in Eastern’s theatre program.
New and gently used DVDs rated P, PG or PG-13 will be collected at performances of “City of Angels,” on March 23 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The show performs at the Eastern Center for the Performing Arts, 1401 Laurel Oak Road, Voorhees, NJ 08043. Tickets are $12 ($10 for seniors and students) and are available in advance. Call 784–4441, ext. 6000 for box office hours. Tickets are also available at the door. The show is recommended for mature audiences.
DVDs also may be donated on May 5 at “The Best of John Williams,” the Philharmonic of Southern New Jersey’s final concert of the season. Music and movie lovers alike will experience the thrill of John Williams’ favorite scores performed live, including music from “Star Wars,” “E.T.,” “Harry Potter,” “Superman,” “Jaws,” and more. The 3 p.m. concert takes place at the Eastern Center for the Performing Arts. Tickets are available at www.psnj.org.
