Congregation M’kor Shalom presents special program, Marriage Equality and The Supreme Court on Sunday, March 17 at 9:15 a.m.
This will take place at 850 Evesham Road in Cherry Hill.
Join us for an enlightening morning discussion with guest speaker Lisa Hardaway, Communications Director of Lambda Legal. Hardaway will talk about the two marriage equality cases that the Supreme Court will be hearing later in March — Proposition 8 and the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) — as well as the current state of the law on marriage equality in New Jersey. Hardaway oversees the communications, publications and media work for Lambda Legal. Lambda Legal is a national organization committed to achieving full recognition of the civil rights of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual & Transgender (GLBT) people through litigation, education and public policy work. Hardaway has played a significant role leading the communications work in all of the marriage litigation cases brought by or co-counseled by Lambda Legal including cases in New York, Washington, California and New Jersey. Hardaway graduated from Wayne State College in 1995 with a B.S.E. and 1998 with an M.S.E.
M’kor Shalom’s own Rabbi Richard Address will speak about Kulanu (meaning “all of us”), the Reform movement’s program for GLBT inclusion. Rabbi Address is also the co-editor of the Kulanu Resource Guide, projected to help pave the way for GLBT inclusion in our synagogue community for years to come.
This program is free and open to the community. A light breakfast will be served. For more information, contact M’kor Shalom Membership Director Sarah Rosenson in the synagogue office at (856) 424–4220 ext. 299.
This program is funded in part by a grant from the Jewish Community Foundation.
