Plans for the Memorial Park playground have been sent to the Pinelands Commission for approval, township manager Bill Cromie said at the March 5 council meeting.
Evesham Township was approved for a $250,000 grant from Burlington County Freeholders and the Municipal Park Development Assistance Program in August.
In addition to the commission’s consent, the planning board will meet to review plans and formally make a recommendation to council.
The playground, located on Tuckerton Road, is more than 20 years old and in need of repair.
According to Director of Community Development Nancy Jamanow, the playground is slated to be approved in April and will be closed for a total of six week from demolition to reopening.
Upon completion, the park will be compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act in addition to having new equipment.
Numerous repairs over the years to the playground equipment became constant and a financial burden, Cromie told The Sun in August.
“It’s going to be really wonderful,” Mayor Randy Brown said.
In other news, additional roads were added to the road plan proposed by Cromie.
The township has 175 miles of municipal roads, many of which are in need of repair, he said.
More residential roads were added to the four-year plan at the request of council.
According to Cromie, roads in the Cambridge Park area will see upgrades, in addition to Mayville, Ridgemont and Radford.
The Evesham Twinning Association visited twin town Evesham, England. The association travels every three years or so to the town.
The English town presented Evesham Township with a Royal Worcester Plate to commemorate the celebration of the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II.
In addition to the plate, the association was given a needlepoint from the liaison of the Twinning Association in England.
The needlepoint depicted the oldest building in Evesham, at the site at a cathedral that was torn down during King Henry VIII’s reign and the England Reformation.
In other news, a workshop is scheduled for the abandoned properties plan.
A hearing will be held for approval of the proposal.
In other news, the Police Unity Tour fundraiser will be held in Berlin this year. Eleven Evesham officers will be riding in the event. The fundraiser was going to be in Evesham, but multiple locations were unavailable, according to assistant township manager Monica Vandenberg.
The next meeting will be held Tuesday, March 19. The meeting will be a workshop on the 2013 tentative budget. The township plans to introduce the budget April 9. Meetings are held at 6:30 p.m. at the Municipal Building located at 984 Tuckerton Road.
