County to host parent and young driver program

Sheriff Jean E. Stanfield announced a free presentation designed to reduce teen driver crashes by increasing parental involvement, called, “Share the Keys” on Saturday, March 16 from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m., at the Emergency Services Training Center, 53 Academy Drive in Westampton.

“Share the Keys” is structured for parents and their teen drivers in the pre-permit/permit stage of licensure. It is designed to support parental involvement and safe driving behaviors.

“I am very impressed with the research that went into making this program effective,” said Stanfield. “My granddaughter just received her driving permit and I am so pleased we can offer this class to her and the other teens taking to the road.”

The program further assists parents in understanding the Graduated Driver Licensing laws and responsibilities associated with driving that are essential to teen driver safety.

Parents, and teens who already hold a probationary license will also benefit from this program.

Key objectives for the program include, understanding the GDL, being a good role model, effectively enforcing the GDL at home, increasing practice driving hours, and controlling the keys.

There will be door prizes to give away during the presentation from Smoothie King, LA Fitness, Westampton Car Wash, Camden RiverSharks, Camden Aquarium and Friendly’s.

Parents and their teens interested in attending the “Share the Keys” presentation can call the Burlington County Sheriff’s Department, Community Services Unit, (609) 265–3788.
