On Wednesday, Feb. 6, a Lumberton resident was killed in a car accident on Route 38.
Moorestown Police said 56-year-old Helen Patterson was driving eastbound in a 2013 Mitsubishi Outlander when the vehicle swerved off the road and crashed head-on into a utility pole at around 2 p.m.
The vehicle then traveled 180 feet, rolled onto the driver side and the roof of the Outlander smashed into another utility poll, crushing the roof of the car and snapping the utility pole in two, police said.
PSE&G arrived at the scene to stabilize the pole, police said.
Patterson was pronounced dead at the scene and there were no other occupants in the vehicle, police said. No other vehicles were involved in the accident.
Both east bond lanes on Route 38 were closed until 2:30 p.m. when one lane was reopened, police said.
According to police, the cause of the crash is still under investigation
