Impromptu food bank to help local food pantries

Putting a vacant storefront along a busy stretch of Route 70 to good use, Sign-A-Rama of Cherry Hill and Cartridge World have teamed up to collect donated food items through the end of March.

The impromptu food bank will funnel donations to area food pantries, which are in replenishing mode after the holiday season.

Donations can be dropped off at either Sign-A-Rama, 2110 Route 70 East in Cherry Hill, or the neighboring Cartridge World.

Nonperishable food items can be dropped off between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, through March 31.

Both the banner and sign company and the remanufactured ink cartridge supplier are located in the Cross County Plaza shopping center, owned by Needleman Management.

“My wife Janis and I saw this gaping space next door and thought about how we might be able to utilize it. A food bank seemed to be the perfect idea,” says Sign-A-Rama owner Chuck Eldridge. “We enlisted our neighbors, Thea and Marty Long of Cartridge World, to participate and help us spread the word in the community.”

Donated items are earmarked for the Food Pantry in Washington Township, Twin Oaks Community Services’ food pantry in Berlin, and the Cherry Hill School District, which serves more than 75 families in need.

Evans School, 400 Route 73 in Evesham, and Demasi Elementary School, 199 Evesboro Road in Marlton, are also accepting food donations during the drive, during regular school hours.
