The Evesham Board of Education held its annual reorganization meeting on Thursday, Jan. 3.
Both president Sandy Students and vice president Joseph De Julius positions were reinstated for 2013–2014.
Three board members, chosen during the November elections, were sworn in at the meeting.
Trish Everhart, Joe Fisicaro Jr. and Kevin Stone were sworn in for their three-year terms on the board.
“I’m very excited for all the new challenges that are going to be facing us and I’m excited to work with everyone,” said incumbent Everhart.
One of the challenges faced by the board include the aftermath of the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut.
“I think security is going to be a major issue,” said Fisicaro. “It makes people feel like they’ll never be safe, I think what we need to do is we need to look at every angle. It’s about safety and it’s about making parents feel comfortable when they drop their kids off.”
Fisicaro is returning to the board after leaving office in 2009.
“It’s like picking up a bike again and getting back into the swing of things,” he said. “It’s nice to be helping out the community.”
Newcomer Stone will be serving on the board of education for the first time.
“I’m excited. I was a little nervous being up there it’s a different perspective up there from in the crowd,” he said.
Stone hopes to open lines of communication through social media, noting the Mt. Laurel School District has a Facebook page.
“I also want to honor students at each meeting, even if it’s for honor roll,” Stone said.
Additional changes to the board include eliminating meetings at a different school each month.
Remaining meetings will be held at Marlton Elementary School and will now begin at 7 p.m.
“We wanted to get an earlier start on meetings,” said Student.
The next board of education meeting will be held on Jan. 24 at Marlton Elementary located at 190 Tomlinson Mill Road at 7 p.m.
