Amy Buchanan, of Blenheim, N.J., joins Samaritan Healthcare and Hospice as the not-for-profit organization’s first thrift store manager, announced President and CEO Mary Ann Boccolini.
Samaritan Thrift opened to the public Aug. 14.
Buchanan will oversee the daily operations of Samaritan Thrift, located at 33 Haddon Avenue, Westmont including merchandise collection and display, financial activities, volunteer coordination and store promotions.
Buchanan brings more than 15 years of management and supervisory skills to Samaritan. Her prior experience includes 10 years as controller at Data Business Forms, where she managed the daily operation of the office, supervised and trained staff and directed the financial activities of the organization.
“Amy Buchanan’s work history and customer service skills made her the perfect candidate to open Samaritan’s first retail endeavor,” said Sally Cezo, supervisor and Samaritan’s Manager of Volunteer Services. “Her business and fashion sense, knowledge of the thrift store market and her service ethic will help her not only raise funds for Samaritan, but raise friends for our organization as well.”
Samaritan Thrift, which will be staffed by Samaritan volunteers under Buchanan’s supervision, is Samaritan’s first retail endeavor to help raise funds for its programs and services. Merchandise includes gently used or new clothing for men, women and children, as well as shoes, household items and toys.
Thrift store sales will support the Samaritan Healthcare & Hospice patients and families who are not covered by private insurance, Medicare or Medicaid. “Since 1980, Samaritan has not turned away one hospice patient due to an inability to pay,” said President and CEO Mary Ann Boccolini.
After the public opening on Aug. 14, a grand-opening ribbon-cutting celebration will be planned for mid-September, said Cezo.
