Artworks in Burlington County College’s Summer Art Exhibition are exclusive but widespread. Students, alumni and the community have submitted their pieces in the show that is running now through Sept. 22.
“It’s a campus-wide exhibit,” said Michelle Hoffman, manager of the student art gallery, which is based in nearby Mt. Holly.
The gallery is run completely by students at the college, she said, and is open from Tuesdays to Fridays from noon to 5 p.m. and on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
In Mt. Laurel, residents who want to stay in town but check out some art can view select pieces of art in The Incubators at BCC, 100 Technology Way, Mt. Laurel, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.
There is no cost to attend.
In total, there will be 110 pieces showing with a curator for each exhibit.
“It’s a pretty big show,” said Hoffman, with most pieces accepted from interested parties that had applied.
The art in the show is the finest that can be produced, she said, and range from huge oil paintings to pastel drawings to digital photographs.
“So pretty much all mediums of art,” she said, including jewelry.
The college offers a not-for-credit jewelry class and some creations from that class will be displayed as well.
Hoffman, a business-oriented individual, heads a team of students who call on the artists to submit their work.
The student team handles intake, the labeling process and the gallery transitions from previous shows.
It is a unique initiative, she explained.
“We teach them the business-side of running a gallery,” said Hoffman.
Some pieces in the show are available for purchase with prices ranging from $75 to more than $3,000.
The students involved were instructed on how to cost their work.
According to communications specialist for the college, Margo Harvey, “The gallery is a very well-rounded learning experience for the students.”
