Cherry Hill police track down East-side burglar

Over the last few weeks, the Cherry Hill Police Department was called to investigate numerous thefts from autos in the east end of the township.

Through determined investigative efforts, a suspect was developed. On June 20, CHPD personnel initiated a surveillance operation and observed the suspect attempt to gain entry to an automobile on the 1500 block of Randy Drive.

The suspect was unsuccessful in the attempt on the car, but brazenly entered an open garage door at a residence on the same block.

The male suspect was immediately arrested and positively identified as Matthew McGuire, 20 years of age, 200 block of Morris Drive, Cherry Hill. He was interviewed by CHPD Detectives and confessed to twenty-six other incidents involving burglaries and thefts.

Police were successful in recovering some of the stolen property from the other incidents.

Every piece of recovered stolen property has been photographed and is available for viewing on the Cherry Hill Police Department Website at www.cherryhillpolice.com.

From the home page select Police Department and scroll to the bottom of the Site Tools then click on the icon for Recovered Stolen Property.

This will bring you to a second page where you click on “Recovered Property Document” to view photos of the stolen property. All inquiries should be directed to Detective Mark Buehler of the Cherry Hill Police Department at 432–8831.

McGuire was charged with twenty-six counts of burglary, twenty-two counts of theft and one count of possession of burglary tools. He was remanded to Camden County Jail in default of bail.

This arrest serves as a reminder to always lock your car and remove any valuables every time you exit your vehicle, even if parked in your home’s driveway. Also please remember to secure all doors and windows to and around your property.
