The members of the Evesham Township Council will explore all options for vendors at the Indian Spring Country Club.
This year, both the managing and catering company for the county club will see contracts expire at the start of 2013.
Billy Casper Golf has managed the country club for the past three years, Interim Township Manager Bill Cromie said. Marco’s Wedding and Banquet Facility and Restaurant has rented space on the first floor of the country club for the past three years as well, Cromie said.
Billy Casper Golf manages more than 125 courses throughout 27 states in the country. It was created in 1989 by PGA Tour legend Billy Casper, who won several PGA tournaments from the mid 1950s to the mid 1970s.
Both companies had contracts that ran for three years and both contained two, 1-year options that could be exercised if all parties involved agreed.
“We were asking for guidance from council as to whether we should renew those contracts or go out to bid,” Cromie said. “The council’s direction was to rebid in an effort to maximize the revenue coming in.”
The council decided to publicize a request for proposal for two new contracts, instead, to see if savings or additional revenue could be realized.
Last year, the township paid Billy Casper Golf $81,000 to manage the course, Cromie said. Marco’s paid the township $165,000 to rent the restaurant space at the country club.
The RFP’s will be published soon, Cromie said.
If the catering company changes, then it’s necessary for them to have a good amount of time to be able to purchase a liquor license, he said.
The new contracts would likely be for three years, he said, with two, 1-year options as well.
The township council is opening up all aspects of its services and budget this year to see if savings or revenues can be realized. Mayor Randy Brown said at an earlier meeting that all services offered through the township could be privatized in the future if savings can be reached.
