Hydraulic rescue tools needed in motor vehicle crash in Marlton

Just before 3:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 6, Evesham Fire Department units were summoned for the report of a one-car motor-vehicle crash on Route 70 in the area of Greenbrook Drive.

Engine 2211 and Ambulance 2291 responded.

While en-route, central dispatch advised that EPD was on location reporting a victim was trapped inside the vehicle, but was conscious and alert. The assignment was then upgraded to a task force-level alarm, bringing units in from throughout the township for added support.

Upon arrival at the scene, 2211’s crew went into service with hydraulic rescue tools to gain access to the patient to affect rescue.

The vehicle had come to rest in a drainage ditch on eastbound Route 70, making patient access difficult. Shortly thereafter, Rescue 2218 arrived to provide additional tools and manpower to assist in the rescue effort.

EFD personnel removed the roof from the vehicle and were able to extricate the driver, who had sustained unspecified injuries. It took crews about 20 minutes after the dispatch to free the patient from the vehicle.

The patient was transported to an area hospital by 2291 and Medic 35. The cause of the crash is under investigation by the Evesham Township Police.
