A familiar face on the Evesham council

Ken D’Andrea was surrounded by his wife Laurie, his son Phillip, and his daughter Gabrielle as the Evesham Township Council Members unanimously approved his appointment to take the open seat on council. The open seat was the result of longtime council member Joe Howarth resigning earlier this month so he could take up his seat on the Burlington County Board of Chosen Freeholders.

D’Andrea, currently the president of the Evesham Celebrations Foundation and leader of the soccer program in the Marlton Recreation Council, was sworn into the open seat on township council Tuesday afternoon.

D’Andrea came back to council after serving from 2000 to 2005. He will step down from his position on the celebrations foundation and will step down from the soccer program at the end of the township’s annual soccer tournament.

“To quote Yogi Berra, it’s deja vu all over again,” he said. “I’m extremely appreciative of this opportunity. It’s a great honor to serve at the behest of the residents again.”

D’Andrea said he will focus on the acquisition of more open space, both passive and active, for residents of Evesham. Using his experience from the Marlton Recreation Council and previous stint on the council, D’Andrea said he is in a better position to improve open space and recreational facilities in Evesham.

Evesham Township is like a business, he said, and the residents are its customers. All profits from the business should be given back to its customers in the form of additional open space, better facilities, improved services, and lowered taxes.

D’Andrea was whittled down from a pool of three potential candidates submitted to the council by the Evesham Republican Club.

He is currently an executive at Verizon. He has worked with the company for the past 23 years.

His father, Hank, served on council with Brown’s father from 1981 to 1993.
