A special meeting will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 24 at 4 p.m. at the Evesham Township municipal hall, 984 Tuckerton Road in Marlton. According to representatives, the council will approve one of three candidates put forth by the Evesham Republican Club to replace Councilman Joe Howarth, who resigned from the council to serve on the Burlington County Board of Chosen Freeholders.
Howarth resigned from the council prior to his swearing in at the Burlington County Board of Chosen Freeholders on Monday, Jan. 2.
Bill Macready, Evesham Republican Committee municipal Chair, said a mass call was sent out to members of the club to gauge interest on the open seat. About 15 responses came in, he said, and they were whittled down to 10 candidates from several members of the municipal board. From those 10, a list of three were presented to the township council.
Howarth won his seat on the Board of Chosen Freeholders of Burlington County in November. He and his fellow republican candidate Leah Arter defeated democratic candidates Mary Anne Reinhart and Machell Still-Pettis to capture the two open seats.
