Ambassador Girl Scouts from Mt. Laurel are bringing the true meaning of Christmas to needy children in Camden.
They are hosting the fifth annual holiday festival/party for 50 needy children from Camden on Friday, Dec. 23..
The girls from Girl Scout Troop 26739, with the assistance of members of Boy Scout Troop 15, have worked hard to make this holiday party special. They have conducted a toy drive to collect toys for the children. Each child will receive two toys, including at least one toy on each child’s wish list.
Over 1,300 toy drive flyers were distributed throughout Mt. Laurel during the weekend of Dec. 10. On Sunday, Dec. 18, scouts collected toys and sorted and wrapped all of them in preparation for the party. More than 300 toys were collected.
The gifts will be presented to the children of Camden by Santa Claus at the holiday festival which is scheduled to take place from 2:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 23, at 1123 South Broadway in Camden.
Games and crafts have been planned by the Girl Scouts and they will DJ the event and lead the children in various dances. Lunch will be provided.
The 50 children who participate in this party are part of the Camden County Council on Economic Opportunity’s (Camden OEO) Urban Women’s Center, 900 South Broadway, Camden.
The girls of Girl Scout Troop 26739 and Boys Scout Troop 15 have made a true commitment to their neighbors in Camden. Over the past nine years, the girls of this troop have organized and conducted the annual Mt. Laurel Girl Scout coat drive that has provided more than 10,000 coats to Camden residents. Five years ago these girls and boys started the tradition of providing a holiday party to children in Camden. This tradition continues today.
