Seneca High School hosting fundraiser for Media Center

Seneca High School will be hosting a fund raiser for its media center this month. In the past, funds raised have been used to purchase new books for the library, to purchase books for summer reading for students in need and to have authors and guest speakers come to the school.
“In the past, we have been able to raise a couple hundred dollars,” Kathy Donoghue, media specialist at Seneca High School, said. “This year we will use it for our Hunger Games project. Whoever wins the competition, we will be taking those students to see the movie.”
The Hunger Games Project is a competition that began this year at the high school. The Hunger Games is a movie set in a post-apocalyptic world. In the movie there are 12 different districts, so the school broke the students up into 12 different districts and holds competitions to see which district wins. The top three districts at the end of the competition will go to see the movie. The students have had a Hunger Games pep rally and last month the competition was a canned food drive.
“This project has gotten the kids very excited about reading,” Donoghue said. “It keeps the momentum going and generates discussion to keep the kids interested. They have really embraced this story, and it is something that they look forward to.”
The school hopes to raise between $300 and $600 this year. The fund raiser will take place on Monday, Dec. 12 between 4 and 9 p.m. at Barnes and Noble in Moorestown in East Gate Square. On that night, the high school will receive a portion of the sales from the books. Anyone wanting to donate to the fund raiser needs to print out a voucher before attending the fundraiser, bring it with them and present it when they purchase anything that night.
The Seneca Singers will perform the night of the fund raiser and the art students’ art work will be on display around the café at Barnes and Noble. The voucher can also be used the week of Monday, Dec. 12 to Sunday, Dec. 20 at any Barnes and Noble around the country and online and at the Barnes and Noble cafe.
