Wine tasting in Burlington County

The Burlington County Board of Chosen Freeholders and the Friends of the Smithville Mansion present the annual Spirits and Spirits wine tasting event Saturday, Nov. 5 from 6 to 10 p.m.

Guests ages 21 and older are invited to sample wine and learn about the other “spirits” that may roam the Historic Smithville Mansion, an 1840’s Greek revival estate. The cost is $30 per person, or $25 for members of the Friends of the Mansion and proceeds benefit the restoration of the mansion.

The wine tasting will include a variety of domestic wine, cheese and hor d‘oeuvres during this fundraising event. Guests may encounter spirits of another kind when members of the South Jersey Ghost Research organization join them on a tour of the historic site.

The South Jersey Ghost Research organization (www.hauntedhelp.org) has conducted multiple investigations of the mansion. “Ghostly” audio recordings and photographs of the group’s research will be presented during the Spirits and Spirits event.

The Smithville Mansion, the centerpiece of Historic Smithville Park, is the former home of Hezekiah B. Smith, an inventor, politician, entrepreneur and founder of the thriving company town of Smithville. During the late 1800s, the property was an international center for the production of woodworking machinery and the high-wheeled Star Bicycle.

The Mansion is located in Historic Smithville Park on Smithville Road, three-quarters of a mile off Route 38 in Eastampton.
