A Mount Laurel man dies while kayaking in upstate New York

A Mount Laurel man died in a river in upstate New York when his kayak plunged over a ledge in the Adirondacks.

William De Angelis, 62, had been kayaking along Moose River on Sunday afternoon by the town of Lyonsdale, 60 miles northeast of Syracuse, on the western edge of the Adirondack Park, according to the Associated Press.

De Angelis went over the ledge while chasing a loose kayak that a member of his party had swum out of, a witness told the the Adirondack Daily Enterprise. The fall ejected him from the kayak, and the force of the water trapped him in a hole.

Witnesses told the Daily Enterprise they could see him below the surface of the water, trying to get to the surface. Other kayakers eventually managed to pull him out of the water and perform CPR. But he was pronounced dead upon arriving at Lewis County General Hospital in Lowville.
