Irma Jennings celebrated her 100th Birthday yesterday.
Irma E. Bartlett was born on August 3rd, 1911 in York, Pennsylvania and grew up in Medford Lakes before meeting her future husband and Shamong resident Forrest Jennings. They married on June 21, 1934.
The couple purchased land in 1939 from Mamie and Charles Jennings on which they built their home on Indian Mills Road and established the Orchard View Farm.
Jennings is the mother of Albert, Joseph, Forrest Jr., Bruce and Lynnetta and is the proud grandmother to thirteen grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
Jennings is a homemaker who enjoyed attending farm bureau meetings and card parties and once decorated the house with peach blossoms, of which Mr. Jennings said “do you know how many bushels of peaches are in here?”
Jennings continues to reside on her own in the home she and Forrest built 72 years ago where she can often be found visiting with family and friends on the front porch and continued to drive until she was 97 years old.
The Shamong Township Committee proclaimed August 3, 2011, as “MRS. IRMA JENNINGS DAY” in Shamong, and urged all citizens to join in paying tribute to Jennings for her 100th birthday.
