Zone team championships here we come

Congratulations to two Haddonfield students who made the United States Tennis Association (USTA) Zone Team Championships in their respective age group. Incoming freshman Michael Alberto and returning sophomore Amanda Lanciano, both 14, are heading to Cary, N.C. from July 27 to 31 to represent their section of the United States, Middle States. USTA is the governing body sponsoring the championship and their mission is to promote and develop the growth of tennis.

The Zone Team Championship is a five day team competition emphasizing both singles and doubles play and mixed doubles play against other sections with match results counting for National and Middle State Section rankings.

The team members are selected based upon past performance at national and sectional level tournaments. There are different opportunities based upon age. In the 14 age division, the top 12 boys and top 12 girls are selected from the most recent posted national standings list and middle states standings list.

The athletes work hard all year competing in district, sectional and national tournaments to earn points needed to achieve a good ranking.

For more information on the competition, please visit the USTA’s Web site here.
