Since its inception in 2009, more than 200,000 county residents have opted to sign up for e-mails, text messages, pages and phone calls from Camden County’s Emergency Notification System. The Camden County Office of Emergency Management implemented the system to serve as a reliable mode of communications with county residents during major emergency situations.
“Residents can visit the county website to select the means by which they would like to be notified in case of an emergency,” said Freeholder Rodney Greco, liaison to the Camden County Office of Emergency Management.
Camden County has utilized Swiftreach Networks, Inc. as the county’s emergency notification service provider. Their SWIFT911 system is a high-speed notification program with the capability of delivering recorded warnings to the entire community via telephone, e-mail, text or pager. The system can contact up to four telephone numbers until reaching the designated party. Emergency messages are able to reach TTY (teletypewriter) phones used by those who are deaf or hard of hearing. Additionally, the system employs a Do Not Call component for those who do not wish to receive the alert.
“We are in the age of technology where nearly everyone is connected to each other through cell phones and computers,” Greco said. “This is a great way for us to reach out, in whatever way is most convenient, to notify you in cases of emergency or for any other important updates.”
All of the correspondence residents receive through the Emergency Notification System will be identified as having come from Camden County.
